I Waited Patiently

"I waited patiently for the Lord; he inclined to me and heard my cry. He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock."
— Psalm 40:1–2

David's waiting here is not passive resignation but an active, patient posture that eventually meets a real, decisive rescue — inclined, heard, drawn up, set on rock. The order matters: the waiting comes first, sometimes for a long uncomfortable while, before the rescue is described. If you're currently in the pit or the miry bog part of this psalm, you are not skipping a step or doing waiting wrong. You are in the very place David was, right before the part where God inclines to hear.

Prayer

Lord, I wait patiently for You in this pit. Incline to me, hear my cry, and set my feet on solid ground. Amen.
