Riches That Fail

"As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy."
— 1 Timothy 6:17

Paul isn't condemning wealth itself here — he's warning against where wealth places its hope, calling riches specifically 'uncertain,' a word that should sober anyone whose sense of security rises and falls with the market or the paycheck. God is described in contrast as the one who richly provides everything to enjoy, a generous giver rather than a withholding one. Wherever your finances currently sit, examine where your hope actually rests today — in the number, or in the God who provides regardless of the number.

Prayer

Lord, keep my hope from resting on uncertain riches. Let it rest on You, the one who richly provides. Amen.
