"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid."
Jesus says this the night before His arrest — hardly a peaceful circumstance by any worldly measure. Which means the peace He's offering was never meant to depend on circumstances being calm. The world's peace requires the absence of trouble; His peace can coexist right alongside real trouble, because it's rooted in who He is, not in what's currently happening. Whatever is troubling your heart today, notice that Jesus doesn't dismiss the trouble — He simply offers something sturdier than the trouble to hold onto.
Jesus, give me Your peace today, not the world's kind that depends on circumstances. Quiet my troubled heart. Amen.
