Closer Than a Brother

"A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother."
— Proverbs 18:24

Many acquaintances is not the same thing as one true, sticking friend, and Solomon draws that distinction sharply. Loneliness sometimes persists even in a full social calendar because the connections stay shallow, never risking the depth that real friendship requires. This proverb also points beyond human friendship toward the ultimate friend who sticks closer than any brother — a description early Christians applied directly to Christ. If you're lonely today, ask both for the courage to deepen one human friendship and for the awareness that you already have a Friend who never leaves.

Prayer

Lord, be the friend who sticks closer than a brother today. Give me courage to deepen the human friendships around me too. Amen.
