Humbled and Held

"Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you."
— 1 Peter 5:6–7

Peter links humility and anxiety in an unexpected way — anxiety, at its root, is often a refusal to let God be in control of the timeline, a quiet insistence that we manage the outcome ourselves. Humbling yourself under His mighty hand means releasing your grip on the 'proper time,' trusting His schedule over your own urgency. This is hard, ongoing work, not a one-time decision. Today, notice where you're gripping a timeline too tightly, and practice, again, the casting Peter describes.

Prayer

Lord, I humble myself under Your hand and release my grip on the timeline. Care for what I cast onto You today. Amen.
